So exciting, spring is almost here, my bleeding hearts are beginning to peak up, the daffodils are also beginning to poke their heads up. last week my sister finished my cold frame/mini green house. nothing too fancy, under the sand is river rock so once it warms up it will drain very nicely and everything. Well it is storming outside, time to shut down.

Oriental Chicken Salad --- good with or without the chicken
Dressing: 3 tbs honey, 1.5 tbs rice wine vinegar (if you don't have take 1 tsp white wine, 2 tsp cider vinegar, 1 tsp white vinegar), 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 tsp mustard, 1/8 tsp sesame oil --- mix all this well
Fry the chicken breast in olive oil with some lemon pepper sprinkled on top, cut up.
The salad --- sliced red cabbage, sliced green cabbage, sliced carrots, celery and chives (or onion) -- I added nuts such as sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews, whatever -- top with chow mein noodles and put dressing on top to taste -- this is a great dinner.

Well we had to put our Gizmo down in November, here is his last day -- Gizmo was a Cardigan Welsh Corgi and 10 years old. He had hip dysplasia and the last few weeks it was getting more and more painful for him to get around. We are missing Gizmo a great deal.
. I completed 4 quilts 1 for a heart baby who was having surgery and 3 for our adopt a family program at work. Tyson's quilt.
Adopt a family for 6 year old girl, for 2 year old boy
and 10 month old baby

Well I finished my window quilts this weekend, here is a pic. I think they turned out pretty cute. No they did not follow the pattern exactly as I had drafted, sigh I discovered it was way way too putzy of a pattern. But I like how this turned out. It stops the drafts wonderfully also.
Halloween is always so much fun. Brittany and I set up the front yard with candles, we had our lawn chairs out in the middle of the yard and the fire pit burning. A lot of the little kids were scared to come up. It is just candle light all other lights are turned off and the dogs are in the house barking their fool heads off. Every year we seem to get fewer and fewer kids, kinda sad. I am located between 2 elementary schools, you would think we would have tons of kids. I think we got less then 50 kids this time.

Well for my company USBANK I am on the board for the American Heart Association Heart Walk. I created a slide to hopefully show to the employees so they can see the reality of Heart Defects.

You know lately with there has been a lot of chatter on the lists about flu shots and other vaccinations and the pros and cons etc etc.
This has me thinking, you know when my Heart kid was younger (he is 18 years old now folks) things seemed easier, and I think one of the reasons was that I did not have internet then. Didn't know about a lot of the stuff that you all are hearing about and worrying about. I did not get internet access until 1995 or 1996, and there were not a whole lot of chat groups out there yet for parents of heart kids. Back then, we all got our kids vaccinated, so I did too. The doctors stressed for Andrew that he gets all the vaccinations, okay, so I did. I did not hear the bad stories, the sad stories or courageous stories unless they were in the local papers. So I did not know to worry about this that and the other things, so I didn't worry about it.
You know the younger parents have so much information overload my god it would have terrified me.
I looked at things very simplistically back then, he is here, the docs say treat him normal, just watch out for a few things. Okay, so that was simple and I did not worry that much. I hear all these stories now, and wonder was I naive, did I have blinders on, or was it just plain dumb luck that Andrew survived to be 18 years old. hmmmmm I leaning towards the dumb luck myself.
Well those are just my musings for the day.
